Position Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Respiratory Therapy Manager has 24-hour accountability for the respiratory therapy department, and is responsible for the day to day clinical operations/systems. Accountable for creating a departmental vision, developing and monitoring departmental goals, and ensuring that the vision and goals support the organizations strategic plan. Responsible for the development of the annual respiratory therapy budget, including monthly monitoring and reporting of budget compliance. Oversees and ensures the effectiveness/efficiency of departmental systems and clinical standards, to support the delivery of age-specific quality respiratory patient care, and meeting respiratory standards as set by state and national regulatory agencies. Maintains adequate staff to meet the identified needs of patient care and the respiratory therapy department. Functions as a communication bridge between staff, other healthcare disciplines and administration. Is a leader and coach in promoting professional growth and development, and clinical standards for all respiratory therapy department staff.
  • Defines operational standards, organizes department-level activities to achieve optimum service delivery/systems/care/processes, setting high performance objectives for the department. Holds self and others accountable to meet stated objectives, outcomes, goals, timetables and commitments, adhering to standards even in the face of unforeseen circumstances.
  • Synthesizes all available information to make informed decisions. Fosters creativity, innovation and divergent thinking in self and others. Manages complex situations using multiple sources of information and advice. Prioritizes, proposes and leads operational projects/system changes based on careful analysis of current processes.
  • Performs in a leadership role to promote smooth operational flow of the respiratory therapy department, and respiratory services throughout the patient care areas.
  • Accountable for development and implementation of short and long-range initiatives for the department.
  • Utilizes human, material and fiscal resources of department within budgetary guidelines or within acceptable budget variances.
  • Accountable for departmental systems and clinical standards to promote quality patient care and work environment, meeting hospital and outside agencies regulatory standards.
  • Leads an environment that fosters a professional team, demonstrating quality patient care, service excellence, team engagement/departmental ownership and organizational commitment.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS/COMPETENCIES
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have current Nebraska license as a registered respiratory therapist.
  • Knowledge of management/leadership principles to include program/project development and implementation
  • Must be certified in basic cardiac life support; required NRP and PALS certification within six months of employment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree preferred in healthcare or business related field.
  • Three years personnel and operations management related experience.
  • Minimum 5 years experience as a respiratory therapist, with minimum of 3 years in pediatrics.
  • Knowledge of pediatric respiratory therapy clinical practice and the ability to manage the respiratory therapy department as acquired through at least three years related work experience.
