HDR CUH2A is currently in need of a Laboratory Planner to work in our office in New York, NY or Princeton, NJ. They will develop program requirements, conceptual layouts, and detailed design criteria for laboratory facilities, and also be responsible for the planning and design of laboratories, vivarium, manufacturing, and medical areas. This person must have the ability to translate clients needs into functional technical spaces, and determine space demand and capacity, as well as independently collect data, analyze the project's goals and objectives, and assist other disciplines involved in the design process. They must also evaluate specific types of lab equipment, cabinetry and casework, and aid the client in the selection of this for their individual laboratory environments. The Laboratory Planner also prepares contract documents and specifications for technical projects while insuring compatibility with drawings and technical conditions, and will write technical specifications in compliance with acceptable standards and existing laws, rules and regulations. Bachelors Degree or Masters Degree in Architecture is preferred, but not required.

5+ years applicable lab planning experience.

Strong computer skills in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.

Knowledgeable of AAALAC guidelines, NIH guidelines, FDA cGMP/cGLP requirements, various lab planning approaches and general equipment types and requirements.

Must have excellent interpersonal communication, client service, and analytical skills.

Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required.
