Director, Clinical Informatics

The Director, Clinical Informatics will direct, design and develop clinical informatics strategies aimed at optimizing clinical information systems to advance clinical workflows through improved performance in patient safety and quality outcomes, in addition to both patient and clinician experience. Oversee a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including both nursing and pharmacy to ensure innovative approaches to enterprise challenges. This role serves as a bridge between clinical operations, IT, and executive leadership to ensure technology aligns with organizational goals, strategic initiatives and regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities include overseeing and standardizing EHR and clinical system workflows and clinical decision support, as well as advancing data-driven decision-making. This individual will promote innovation while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, privacy standards, and best practices in health information management. The role also drives adoption of clinical decision support and its associated best practices to improve usability, as well as quality and operational outcomes. Continuous evaluation of emerging informatics technologies and trends is expected to inform system improvements and innovation.

Required Qualifications: Director, Clinical Informatics


* Minimum of seven years healthcare leadership experience required.
* Minimum of five years information technology or application experience required.
* Minimum of five years clinical experience which includes application of quality improvement tools and methodology, project leadership, and pharmacy or nursing practice experience required.

* Master's degree in informatics or Master's degrees in information systems, healthcare administration, business administration, public health, or healthcare field are eligible with completion of certificate of informatics or health information technology within 24 months of hire required.

* Bachelor's degree in science/healthcare related field required.
* Execution of business or clinical strategic plans and goals required.
* Strong analytical and spreadsheet skills, independent problem-solving skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and self-direction required.
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal required.
* Strong presentation and presentation formatting skills required.
* Ability to motivate a diverse work force with varying backgrounds and knowledge required.

* Ability to work with senior executives, physicians and enterprise leadership both within and outside Nebraska Medicine required.
* Ability to promote and direct an integrative systems approach to complex problem solving required.
* Experience and expertise in process redesign required.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required.
* Proficient in literature review required.
* Licensed in the state of Nebraska or jurisdiction in which pharmacy or nursing practice is conducted upon start or transfer required.
* Basic Cardiac Life Support required.
* Electronic health record experience required.

Preferred Qualifications: Director, Clinical Informatics

* Master's or doctoral degree in informatics, information systems, healthcare administration, business administration, public health, or healthcare field preferred.
* Doctor of pharmacy degree from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) college of pharmacy or doctorate of nursing preferred.

* Pharmacy, medication management and/or medication safety experience at a leadership level preferred.
* Experience with electronic clinical decision support tools preferred.

* Experience in an academic medical center environment preferred.
* For pharmacists: Completion of Post Graduate Year One (PGY1) and Two (PGY2) American Society of Health System Pharmacists' (ASHP) accredited pharmacy residency programs strongly preferred.
* Board Certification as a Pharmacotherapy Specialist preferred.
* For nurses: Professional certification in informatics preferred.
* Certificate in informatics or health information technology preferred.
* Epic applications certification preferred.
* Strong understanding of organization's policies and procedures, and business and clinical practice and operations preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Visio and Project preferred.
* Experience with LEAN/Six Sigma quality improvement methodology preferred.
* Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt Certification Preferred.
